Conversion Formulas

NPS to Google Rating Conversion

This converter uses a linear regression formula to estimate Google star ratings from NPS scores:

Rating = (NPS + 100) ÷ 200 × 4 + 1

• NPS of -100 maps to a 1.0 star rating

• NPS of 0 maps to a 3.0 star rating

• NPS of 100 maps to a 5.0 star rating

Google Rating to NPS Conversion

The reverse conversion uses the inverse formula:

NPS = (Rating - 1) ÷ 4 × 200 - 100

• 1 star maps to NPS of -100

• 3 stars maps to NPS of 0

• 5 stars maps to NPS of 100

Understanding NPS Classifications

Your NPS score falls into one of four categories:

  • Detractors (-100 to 0): Unlikely to recommend, potential churn risk
  • Passive (0 to 30): Satisfied but not enthusiastic, vulnerable to competitors
  • Promoters (30 to 70): Likely to recommend, loyal customers
  • World-class (70+): Highly likely to recommend, strongest advocates

Got Questions?

What Are Common Questions About NPS to Google Rating Converter?

Why convert NPS to Google ratings?

NPS and Google ratings measure customer satisfaction differently. NPS asks "How likely are you to recommend?" while star ratings reflect overall satisfaction. This converter helps you understand how your NPS translates to estimated review ratings for benchmarking and goal-setting purposes.

Is this conversion formula accurate?

This converter provides an estimated correlation based on industry research. The formula uses linear regression to map NPS scores to star ratings. However, the actual relationship varies by industry, customer base, and review platform. Use this as a benchmarking tool rather than an exact prediction.

What's a good NPS score?

An NPS above 0 is good (more promoters than detractors). An NPS above 30 is considered excellent. An NPS above 50 is world-class. However, benchmarks vary by industry. Compare your NPS to your industry average rather than a universal standard.

How do I improve my NPS?

Focus on converting detractors to passives and passives to promoters. Act on the feedback from detractors, improve key pain points, and create moments of delight for your customers. Measure NPS regularly to track progress.

Can I use this for survey data?

Yes! If you collect NPS via surveys, use this converter to set target Google rating goals. Or if you have your average Google rating, use this tool to estimate what NPS score you should aim for to match your review goals.
