The default, and the one to beat

A grid shows several reviews simultaneously, which means a visitor takes in volume and specifics in the same glance. No waiting, no clicking, no motion. That combination is why it converts better than the alternatives in most places you would put reviews.

The other layouts on this site exist for particular constraints: not enough vertical space, a need for ambient texture, reviews of wildly different lengths. If you do not have one of those constraints, the grid is the answer and choosing something else is decoration.

The only real decision is column count, and the mistake is going too wide. Four columns of review text on a desktop page produces four narrow strips nobody reads.

Choosing

When to Use It, and When Not To

✓Use it when

The page is where the decision happens: a landing page, a service page, a pricing page.
You have at least six reviews worth showing.
You want volume and detail communicated at the same time.
You are building a dedicated testimonials or reviews page.

!Pick something else when

Vertical space is genuinely tight. A grid is honest about needing room.
Your reviews vary hugely in length. Use masonry so the short ones do not leave holes.
You have three reviews. A three-card grid looks like the whole of your reputation.
It needs to sit in a narrow sidebar, where it collapses to one column and becomes a list anyway.

Reviews Grid Widget FAQ

How many columns should a reviews grid have?

Three on desktop for most sites, two if your reviews run long. Four makes each card too narrow to read comfortably and the layout stops being a grid and starts being a wall.

What happens on mobile?

It collapses to a single column automatically. You do not configure that separately.

How many reviews should I show?

Six to nine is the usual sweet spot. Enough to read as volume, few enough that a visitor reaches the end of it.

What if my reviews are very different lengths?

A grid aligns rows, so a short review next to a long one leaves visible empty space in its card. That is exactly the case masonry exists for.

Can I show only my best reviews?

The rating filter is on paid plans and lets the widget show only four-star-and-up or five-star reviews. Note that filtering which reviews you display on your own site is different from filtering who you ask for a review, which is review gating and is against platform policy.
