How to Add Reviews to Jimdo: First, Which Jimdo?

Most guides to this question skip the part that decides the answer. Jimdo has shipped two editors under one brand, and they do not do the same things. On Jimdo Creator, adding a review widget is a paste into a Widget / HTML element and takes about a minute. On the current Jimdo Website Builder it is not possible at all, and Jimdo says so directly in its own help centre rather than leaving you to discover it. Working out which editor you are in is therefore the first step, not a preliminary.

There Are Two Jimdos

Jimdo Creator is the older editor, the one with the fuller feature set and a menu of elements that includes a Widget / HTML block. Sites built in it still run in it. The current Jimdo Website Builder is the newer product, faster to start with, more opinionated, and deliberately narrower in what it will let you put on a page.

The two share a name and a dashboard style, which is why so much writing about Jimdo embeds is wrong in one direction or the other. A guide written against Creator describes an element that does not exist in the newer builder, and a guide written against the newer builder concludes that Jimdo cannot do embeds at all.

Neither is a fault in the product. They are different tools with different promises, and the newer one trades extensibility for the guarantee that a site cannot be broken by something pasted into it. That is a legitimate trade, and it just happens to be the wrong side of the trade for this particular job.

Working Out Which One You Are On

Open the editor and look for the element list. If adding content offers you a Widget / HTML option among the blocks, you are in Creator and the rest is straightforward. If the content options are a fixed set of designed sections with no code or HTML entry anywhere, you are on the current Website Builder.

The help centre you land in is the other reliable tell. Jimdo maintains separate documentation for the two products, and the article you get when you search for custom code from inside your own account is the one that applies to your site.

It is worth checking rather than assuming, because the answer often surprises the owner. Sites that have been running for years are usually on Creator, and anything started recently is usually not, but neither rule is dependable enough to skip the thirty seconds it takes to look.

The Widget / HTML Element in Creator

Open the page in the Creator editor and add a Widget / HTML element in the position the reviews should occupy. Paste the embed code into the box and confirm. The widget renders on the live page, and there is nothing further to install or enable.

Give it its own block rather than nesting it inside a text element. Jimdo blocks are the unit that gets moved, duplicated and deleted, and a widget that lives in its own block survives later editing far better than one embedded inside a paragraph someone will eventually rewrite.

Placement is per page. A reviews section on the home page and a compact badge on the contact page are two elements rather than one setting, which is usually what you want anyway since the two do different jobs at different points in a visit.

What to Do on the Current Website Builder

Jimdo is explicit about this: you cannot insert your own HTML code, scripts or external widgets in the Jimdo Website Builder. The restriction covers HTML, CSS and JavaScript additions, iFrame embedding and external widget embed codes, and Jimdo gives stability, security and a consistent design as the reasons.

That means no workaround exists that is worth attempting. There is no hidden field, no plan that unlocks it and no trick with a form element. Anything that appears to work would be working around a deliberate product decision, which is a poor foundation for something that has to keep running.

The realistic options are three. Link out to the review profile from a prominent button, which costs a click but is honest and takes a minute. Keep the site on Creator if it is already there. Or move the site to a builder with a code element, which is a real decision with real cost and should be made for more reasons than this one.

Why Smart Apps Do Not Cover It

Jimdo points users to Smart Apps as the supported way to bring outside content in, and for the things they cover they work well. Video, social content and forms are the usual cases, and each one is a specific integration that Jimdo has built and maintains.

A catalogue of integrations is a different thing from an embed slot, though. It can only contain what has been added to it, and a review widget from a third party is not in it. Looking for one and not finding it is the correct outcome rather than a search that has gone wrong.

This is the part worth being clear about rather than hopeful, because the alternative is an afternoon spent trying to force a review widget through a form app or a text block. It does not work, and the time is better spent deciding between the three options above.

How Do You Build the Widget?

Paste your Google, Trustpilot or Facebook profile URL, preview your real reviews and rating, then choose from over 100 layout styles across the slider, marquee, grid, list, masonry and badge families, and match the colours and fonts to the site.

The rating in the header comes from the platform aggregate rather than from the cards on screen, so the number on your page is the number a visitor finds when they click through. That is the claim being made on the business, so it needs to hold up.

Free plan, unlimited widget views. If the site is on Creator today and moves somewhere else later, the widget and its embed line come with it: the code is not tied to the builder it was first pasted into.

Where Should the Reviews Go?

On a Creator site, above the footer of the home page. Jimdo templates leave a clean full-width band there, and it is the last thing a visitor reads before the contact details, which is a good place for the reason to get in touch.

Keep one full review section and use a compact badge elsewhere. Repeating the whole section on every page is easy on a template-driven builder and quietly devalues it: proof that appears everywhere reads as decoration.

If you have ended up linking out instead, put the link where the reviews would have gone rather than in the footer. A button that says how many reviews and what the rating is does most of the work of the widget, even though the visitor has to leave to read them.
