How to Add Reviews to Weebly: Check the Notice First

Adding reviews to Weebly is a one-minute job: drag the Embed Code element onto the page and paste one line of HTML. The reason this article does not start there is that a lot of Weebly owners are, right now, in a position where the more useful question is whether the site has a future. Square has announced that Weebly is being discontinued in 67 countries, and the timeline is short: published sites in those countries are unpublished on 27 September 2026. If yours is one of them, the widget still matters, but for a different reason than you came here for. Check the notice in your own account first, then read whichever of the next two sections applies to you.

Before You Add Anything, Check Your Account Notice

Square has announced that Weebly is being discontinued in 67 countries. The list covers much of Asia, Africa, Eastern Europe and South America, and it excludes the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia and most of Western Europe, so the answer genuinely depends on where your account is.

Do not take a third-party list, including this one, as the answer for your account. Log in and look for the notice Weebly is showing account holders in affected regions, because that is the authoritative statement for your site and it names your dates.

This takes two minutes and it changes what you should do next. Adding a reviews section to a site that gets unpublished in three weeks is not the highest-value use of the afternoon, and the section below on portability explains what to do instead.

What Happens on Each Date?

In the affected countries the published timeline runs in three steps. On 27 September 2026 currently published sites are unpublished, which means visitors stop seeing them. Account access continues until late December 2026, specifically so owners can move their site, their domains and their data to another service. From 2 January 2027 the platform is no longer available in those countries.

The gap between the second and third dates is the one that matters. Your site goes dark in September, but you can still get into the account until late December to export content, retrieve domains and copy anything you have not backed up. That window is the whole opportunity, and it closes quietly.

If you are in an affected country, the order of work is: export first, choose a new platform second, rebuild third, and add the reviews section as part of the rebuild rather than on the site that is about to go dark.

What If Your Country Is Not on the List?

Then Weebly continues to work and the rest of this article is a normal how-to. It is worth knowing the wider position, though: Square has been steering new users toward Square Online for some time, and Weebly has had little active development since the 2018 acquisition. The mobile app was pulled from the app stores at the end of 2025, so the editor is desktop only.

That is not a reason to panic, and it is not a shutdown notice for your region. It is a reason to prefer portable choices when you build, which is the same conclusion the affected regions arrive at by a shorter route.

In practice that means favouring things that are not Weebly features. Your content, your domain and a one-line HTML embed all travel. A layout built entirely from platform-specific elements does not.

Where the Code Goes in the Weebly Editor

In the Build sidebar there is an Embed Code element. Drag it onto the page where you want the reviews, click the placed element, and choose Edit Custom HTML. Paste the widget embed into the box and click outside it.

The editor shows a placeholder rather than the rendered widget while you are editing, which catches people out. That is normal: custom HTML is not executed inside the editor canvas. Publish the page and open it in a normal browser tab to see the real thing.

If the element is not visible in the sidebar, you are most likely in the Square Online editor rather than the Weebly one. The two look similar and Square has been migrating accounts between them, so it is worth confirming which editor you are actually in before hunting for a missing element.

There is no plugin to install and no app store to search. Weebly never built a review integration, which in this one respect is convenient, because it means there is nothing platform-specific to unpick later.

How Do You Build the Widget?

Why the Embed Survives a Platform Move

Because it is not a Weebly feature. A one-line HTML embed is just markup, so the identical line pastes into a Square Online embed block, a WordPress Custom HTML block, a Wix HTML iframe element, a Squarespace Code block, a Shopify theme section, a Webflow Embed element or a Framer Embed component.

That is a real advantage over the plugin route people take on other platforms. A WordPress reviews plugin has to be replaced when you leave WordPress. Your configured widget does not, because the configuration lives with the widget rather than with the site.

For anyone in the affected 67, this turns the reviews section from work you are about to lose into work you can do once. Build the widget now, keep the line of HTML in the same place you keep your exported content, and paste it into whatever you rebuild on.

And if you are not affected, the same logic is just insurance. Weebly is in maintenance mode. Choosing the portable option costs nothing today and saves an afternoon whenever the platform question comes up again.
