Review Request Best Practices
Timing Matters
Send requests within 24 hours of the experience. Same-day requests convert better than delayed ones.
Higher conversionSMS Beats Email
SMS review requests have a 98% open rate vs 20% for email. Use SMS for highest conversion, email for detail.
98% open rate (SMS industry benchmark)Keep It Short
The best-performing review requests are under 3 sentences for SMS and under 5 sentences for email.
3 sentences maxDirect Link
Always include a direct Google review link. Every extra click between the customer and the review form costs you reviews.
Lower cost per reviewPersonalize
Using the customer's first name increases open rates and response rates.

A single gentle reminder 3-5 days later recovers many non-responders. Don't send more than one follow-up.
Recovers non-respondersFrequently Asked Questions
Is it okay to ask customers for Google reviews?
Yes! Google explicitly encourages businesses to ask customers for reviews. What you cannot do is offer incentives (discounts, gifts) in exchange for reviews, or selectively ask only happy customers (review gating). These templates are fully compliant with Google's guidelines.
Should I use email or SMS for review requests?
SMS typically gets 3-5x higher response rates than email because of its 98% open rate. However, email works well for industries where customers expect email communication (B2B, legal, healthcare). The best strategy is to use SMS as your primary channel and email as a follow-up.
When is the best time to send a review request?
Send immediately or within a few hours of the experience when satisfaction is highest. For service businesses (plumbing, auto repair), send right after the job is completed. For appointments (dental, salon), send that same evening. Same-day requests convert roughly 2x better than next-day.
How many follow-ups should I send?
One follow-up 3-5 days later is ideal. It recovers 30-40% of people who didn't respond the first time. More than one follow-up risks annoying customers and can hurt your brand. If they don't respond after one reminder, move on.
Can I automate sending these templates?
Not with BlooTrue. BlooTrue does not send review requests; it is a website widgets platform. Copy the template into your own email or SMS app to send it. Once the reviews come in, a free BlooTrue widget shows them on your website with unlimited views.

Create your free widgetThe subject line is most of the work
Everything else about a review request email is downstream of whether it gets opened. A perfect body inside an email titled "We value your feedback" is a perfect body nobody reads.
What works is specific and small: the thing you did, and a question. "How did the boiler service go?" outperforms every variation of "Please review us" because it reads like a person following up rather than a system asking for something.
The body then has one job, which is to make the ask once and get out of the way. Long review request emails fail for the same reason long anything fails: the link is below where people stop reading.
How to Use the Review Request Email Generator
Pick your industry and timing
The wording changes with both. A follow-up the day after a meal is a different email from one a week after a legal matter closes.
Take the subject line as well as the body
It is generated with the message and it is the part that decides whether any of this matters. Do not swap it for something generic.
Send it from a person, not from noreply@
A named sender at your own domain gets opened and gets replies. A no-reply address tells the reader this is bulk mail before they have read a word.
Why Ask This Way
It scales past what you can text
Email is the practical channel once you are asking hundreds of past customers rather than today's ten.
You can include the link properly
An email has room for a clear button and a plain-text fallback link, so there is no character budget forcing you to strip context.
It suits industries where texting would be wrong
Legal, financial, B2B and healthcare-adjacent services have customers who expect written correspondence. A text there reads as intrusive.
It leaves a record
A sent email is something you and the customer can both refer back to, which matters for higher-value work.
What keeps it out of spam, and out of trouble
General information, not legal advice. If you are sending at volume, get your setup reviewed by someone qualified.
Identify yourself and include a real unsubscribe
The US CAN-SPAM Act requires accurate sender information, a valid physical postal address, and a working opt-out that you honour. Canada's CASL additionally requires consent before you send at all.
Authenticate the domain you send from
SPF, DKIM and DMARC are the difference between the inbox and the spam folder. The major mailbox providers now expect all three from anyone sending in bulk, and a review request campaign counts.
Send to people you actually served
Purchased or scraped lists produce spam complaints, and enough complaints will damage the deliverability of your ordinary business mail too.
Never make the review conditional
Screening customers so only the happy ones reach the review form, or offering anything in return, breaks platform policy and, in the US, runs into the FTC rule on consumer reviews and testimonials. Ask everyone the same way.
One follow-up, then leave them alone
Not a legal rule, a practical one. A single reminder after several days is worth sending. A sequence of them turns a satisfied customer into an unsubscribe.
Review Request Email Generator FAQ
What subject line gets the most opens?
A short specific question about the thing you actually did. "How did the move go?" beats "We'd love your feedback" consistently, because it reads as a follow-up from a person rather than a request from a company.
How long should the email be?
Short enough that the link is visible without scrolling. Three or four sentences. The most common failure is an email where the ask arrives after two paragraphs of gratitude.
When should I send it?
A day or two after the work is finished for most services, immediately after for hospitality and food, and a week or more for anything the customer needs time to judge.
Should I send a reminder?
One, four to seven days later, with a different subject line and shorter body. Anything beyond that costs you more in unsubscribes than it gains in reviews.
Why do my review request emails go to spam?
Usually missing domain authentication, or sending from a free mailbox address rather than your own domain. Set up SPF, DKIM and DMARC first; no amount of copy fixes an unauthenticated sender.
Can I only email the customers I know were happy?
No. Filtering who gets asked based on expected sentiment is review gating. Google and the other platforms prohibit it, and in the US the FTC rule on consumer reviews addresses suppression practices directly. Ask everyone.
