Review Request Best Practices
Timing Matters
Send requests within 24 hours of the experience. Same-day requests convert better than delayed ones.
Higher conversionSMS Beats Email
SMS review requests have a 98% open rate vs 20% for email. Use SMS for highest conversion, email for detail.
98% open rate (SMS industry benchmark)Keep It Short
The best-performing review requests are under 3 sentences for SMS and under 5 sentences for email.
3 sentences maxDirect Link
Always include a direct Google review link. Every extra click between the customer and the review form costs you reviews.
Lower cost per reviewPersonalize
Using the customer's first name increases open rates and response rates.

A single gentle reminder 3-5 days later recovers many non-responders. Don't send more than one follow-up.
Recovers non-respondersFrequently Asked Questions
Is it okay to ask customers for Google reviews?
Yes! Google explicitly encourages businesses to ask customers for reviews. What you cannot do is offer incentives (discounts, gifts) in exchange for reviews, or selectively ask only happy customers (review gating). These templates are fully compliant with Google's guidelines.
Should I use email or SMS for review requests?
SMS typically gets 3-5x higher response rates than email because of its 98% open rate. However, email works well for industries where customers expect email communication (B2B, legal, healthcare). The best strategy is to use SMS as your primary channel and email as a follow-up.
When is the best time to send a review request?
Send immediately or within a few hours of the experience when satisfaction is highest. For service businesses (plumbing, auto repair), send right after the job is completed. For appointments (dental, salon), send that same evening. Same-day requests convert roughly 2x better than next-day.
How many follow-ups should I send?
One follow-up 3-5 days later is ideal. It recovers 30-40% of people who didn't respond the first time. More than one follow-up risks annoying customers and can hurt your brand. If they don't respond after one reminder, move on.
Can I automate sending these templates?
Not with BlooTrue. BlooTrue does not send review requests; it is a website widgets platform. Copy the template into your own email or SMS app to send it. Once the reviews come in, a free BlooTrue widget shows them on your website with unlimited views.

Create your free widgetText works because it is the only channel people still open
A review request sent by text is read within minutes. The same request sent by email joins a queue with everything else and is often never opened at all. That gap is why almost every review platform leads with SMS.
What people get wrong is the length. A review request text has one job and about one sentence to do it in. Anything past roughly 160 characters splits into multiple messages, arrives out of order on some carriers, and reads like marketing.
The other thing they get wrong is consent, which in the US and Canada is not optional and not a formality. There is a section on that below, because it is the part that carries an actual penalty.
How to Use the Review Request SMS Generator
Pick your industry and timing
A text sent an hour after a haircut and one sent a week after a roof replacement are different messages. The timing option changes the wording, not just the send time.
Paste your review link
Use a short link. A full Google Maps URL eats most of your character budget on its own and looks like spam in a text.
Copy it and send from a number they recognise
Texts from an unknown shortcode get ignored. Send from your business line if you can, and put your business name in the first few words.
Why Ask This Way
It gets opened
Text messages are read almost immediately and almost always. Nothing else you can send a customer has that property.
It catches them while they still remember
Review quality drops off fast with time. A customer texted the same day writes specifics; one emailed a fortnight later writes "good service".
One tap, no login friction
They are already holding the phone that is signed into their Google account. That is the shortest path from asking to a posted review that exists.
It is short enough to actually send
Owners write and rewrite review request emails for weeks. A text is one line, so it gets sent.
The consent rules, which are not optional
General information, not legal advice. If you are texting at volume, get it checked by someone qualified in your jurisdiction.
US: you need prior express consent under the TCPA
Texting a customer for marketing purposes without consent is what the Telephone Consumer Protection Act penalises, and it is enforced through private lawsuits with statutory damages per message. Having served someone is not consent. Collect a phone number with a clear statement of what you will send.
Canada: CASL applies and the bar is similar
Canada's Anti-Spam Legislation covers commercial electronic messages including SMS. It requires consent, sender identification, and a working unsubscribe mechanism in the message itself.
Every message needs a way to stop it
Reply STOP handling is a carrier requirement in North America, not just a legal one. Messages without it get filtered before anyone sees them.
Do not offer anything in exchange for a review
Separate from telecoms law: incentivising reviews breaks Google and Yelp policy, and in the US the FTC rule on consumer reviews and testimonials treats certain incentive and suppression practices as violations with substantial per-violation penalties. Ask for the review, do not buy it.
Send during business hours
Quiet-hours restrictions apply to marketing messages in many jurisdictions, generally ruling out early morning and late evening. It is also simply how you avoid annoying the customer you are asking for a favour.
Review Request SMS Generator FAQ
How long should a review request text be?
One sentence plus the link, under about 160 characters total. Past that the message splits, and a two-part text asking for a favour reads as marketing rather than a note from a person.
When is the best time to send it?
While the experience is still fresh, which for most local services means the same day or the next morning. The exception is work with a settling-in period, like a repair or an install, where a few days lets them actually judge it.
Can I text customers who have not opted in?
Not for this. A review request is a commercial message, and both the TCPA in the US and CASL in Canada require consent before you send one. Collect the number and the permission at the same time, at the point of service.
Should I send a follow-up if they do not reply?
One, a few days later, worded differently, and then stop. A second nudge lifts response meaningfully. A third makes you the business that texts people repeatedly asking for favours.
Why does my link look broken in the message?
Long URLs wrap and some phones cut them at the line break. Use a short review link, and put it at the end of the message rather than the middle.
Is SMS better than email for this?
For getting the message read, clearly yes. For industries where customers expect written correspondence, such as legal or B2B services, email is the more appropriate channel and the response gap narrows.
