Review schema markup, on paid plans

Paid widgets add schema.org Review and AggregateRating JSON-LD to the page they sit on, so search engines and AI answer engines can read your Google reviews as structured data. Google does not show review stars for reviews a business shows about itself, so the gain is readability, not stars. The free plan shows the reviews without the schema. See how the schema works

Why Use BlooTrue for Yelp on Joomla?

The only free way to put Yelp reviews on a Joomla site — Yelp itself doesn't offer an embed.

Your Whole Yelp Page, Not One Review

Yelp only embeds one review at a time. BlooTrue is the free, paste-and-go alternative — pulls reviews from your public Yelp page automatically.

No Joomla Extension Required

Pure HTML embed. No Joomla Extensions Directory install, no extension permissions, no recurring license fee.

Works on Joomla 3, 4, and 5

Works with Cassiopeia (J4/J5), Protostar (J3), and every third-party template (JoomShaper, YooTheme, JoomLart).

No Yelp API Key Required

Works with any public Yelp business profile. No Yelp Fusion application, no API quotas, no business-level claim required.

What makes a Yelp widget different from a Google review widget?

Yelp's review ecosystem has its own API rules, review filter, and attribution requirements. Knowing them up front avoids surprises after you embed.

Where the reviews and the Yelp rating come from

The star rating and review count in the widget header come from Yelp, exactly as Yelp publishes them for your listing. They are never averaged from the cards on your page. The cards are reviews from your public Yelp page, each credited to Yelp and linked back to your yelp.com/biz page. Paid plans refresh them every day; a free widget keeps the reviews from the day you built it.

Yelp's own options are narrower. The Embed review button on yelp.com puts one recommended review on your site at a time, and it is only on the desktop site. The Yelp Places API (formerly Fusion) returns up to three review excerpts of about 160 characters per business, and it is paid after a 30-day trial.

Yelp's recommendation software and your rating

Yelp's software sorts every review automatically. Yelp says about three quarters of reviews are recommended. The rest sit under “not currently recommended” at the bottom of your Yelp page and do not count toward your star rating or review count. Because the widget header uses Yelp's own rating and count, those reviews never move it. The sorting is automated and Yelp says no employee can override it, so a review can move in or out of the recommended set over time.

Yelp asks businesses not to ask for reviews

Yelp's rule is plain: “Don't ask anyone to review your business.” That covers customers, mailing lists, friends and family, so review-request emails and signs pointing at Yelp work against you there. A widget fits inside the rule: it shows the Yelp reviews you already have and asks nobody for one. If you want to ask customers for reviews, ask on platforms that allow it, such as Google.

Yelp display compliance: logo, star icon, attribution

Yelp's display guidelines require that any third-party widget (a) display the Yelp logo or wordmark on each review card or in the widget header, (b) use Yelp's official red star icon for ratings rather than a substitute, and (c) link each review back to its source URL on yelp.com. BlooTrue handles all three automatically — you don't need to add anything to your embed code. Removing the Yelp logo or replacing the star icon (e.g. with a gold star to match your brand) violates Yelp's terms, so the widget doesn't expose those as customizable. If you need full visual control, use the BlooTrue Google widget instead, which has no such third-party constraints.

Yelp tips for Joomla

Joomla's Custom HTML module renders the Yelp widget without requiring any third-party Yelp extension.
If your Joomla template applies a CSS reset that strips icon fonts, the Yelp star icon may not appear — scope the reset to exclude `.bt-widget` containers.
Yelp's widget is compatible with Joomla's built-in caching plugins (it cache-busts via its own iframe).

Takes less than a minute. No coding, no extension install, no Yelp API key.

Yelp Review Widget for Joomla — Free, Fills Yelp's Embed Gap

BlooTrue's Yelp Review Widget for Joomla is a free, extension-free embed that displays your Yelp reviews on any Joomla site. Yelp only embeds one review at a time. BlooTrue fills that gap by pulling reviews from any public Yelp business page and turning them into a paste-ready Joomla embed. Works on Joomla 3, Joomla 4, and Joomla 5 via the built-in Custom HTML module type, with the default Cassiopeia template (J4/J5), the older Protostar template (J3), and any third-party template. No Joomla Extensions Directory install, no per-month fee, no Yelp API key required.

Why isn't Yelp's own embed enough?

Yelp's own Embed review button puts one review on a page at a time, and Yelp publishes no widget for a whole business page. Third-party widgets are the standard way Joomla sites surface their Yelp reviews on their own pages — BlooTrue is the free option in that category.

About Yelp reviews in this widget

The Yelp widget puts your Yelp business page's recommended reviews on your site, with the star rating and count Yelp publishes for that page at the top. Yelp's recommendation software sorts every incoming review, and the ones it files as not recommended sit in a separate section at the bottom of your Yelp page, outside the public rating, so they never move your widget's number. Each card is credited to Yelp and links back to your yelp.com/biz page. A common mistake is pasting Yelp's own embed code, which shows one review in an iframe.

Frequently Asked Questions

A customer left me a Yelp review but it is not in my widget, why?

First check whether Yelp filed it under 'not recommended' at the bottom of your Yelp page. Yelp's recommendation software keeps those reviews out of the public rating, and the widget follows the listing as Yelp shows it. On the free plan, a review posted after you built the widget waits until a paid plan refreshes it daily.

Why not just use Yelp's own embed code?

Because it shows one review. The Embed review button on the desktop yelp.com puts a single recommended review on your page. The widget shows many at once, with Yelp's own star rating and review count in the header and each card linked back to your listing at yelp.com/biz/your-business.

Will a Yelp review widget give me star snippets in Google results?

No. The Yelp widget deliberately adds no review schema markup, and since July 2026 Google does not show review stars for reviews a business shows about itself through a widget. You still get the reviews on your pages with Yelp's rating and count in the header; you do not get star snippets from this source.

Is the BlooTrue Yelp widget free for Joomla?

Yes. BlooTrue is completely free for Joomla. No extension install, no JED license fee, unlimited views, no credit card.

Does Yelp offer its own embed widget for Joomla?

Not for a whole page. Yelp only embeds one review at a time. BlooTrue fills that gap by pulling reviews from any public Yelp business page.

Do I need a Yelp API key or Yelp Fusion access?

No. BlooTrue works with any public Yelp business profile — no Yelp API key, no Yelp Fusion application, no business-level claim required.

Do I need a Joomla extension to display Yelp reviews?

No. BlooTrue uses a pure HTML embed that drops into a built-in Joomla Custom HTML module. Joomla ships the Custom HTML module type on every install.

Does the widget work on Joomla 3, Joomla 4, and Joomla 5?

Yes, all three. The Custom HTML module type ships with every modern Joomla version. Admin navigation differs slightly — J4/J5 use Content → Site Modules, J3 uses Extensions → Modules — but the embed code is identical.

Where exactly should I paste the embed code on Joomla?

For module placement, open Content → Site Modules (J4/J5) or Extensions → Modules (J3), click + New, choose Custom, click Toggle Editor (or </>) to switch to HTML, paste, set the Position, and assign it to menu items. For inline article placement, edit the article, click Toggle editor, and paste.

Will the widget slow down my Joomla site?

No. The widget loads asynchronously, the script is under 20KB, and lazy loading defers image fetches. Typical impact on Largest Contentful Paint is under 50ms.
