Yelp's software sorts every review automatically. Yelp says about three quarters of reviews are recommended. The sorting is automated and Yelp says no employee can override it, so a review can move in or out of the recommended set over time.

Yelp's rule is plain: “Don't ask anyone to review your business.” That covers customers, mailing lists, friends and family, so review-request emails and signs pointing at Yelp work against you there.
