G2 reviews on a Squarespace software site

Squarespace is a common first home for a young software company, and the plan that site started on matters for this widget. Code Blocks exist on every plan, but scripts inside them run only on the plans above Personal, namely Core, Plus, Advanced, Business and Commerce. A site still on Personal shows an empty space where the G2 reviews should be.

What should a Squarespace site on the Personal plan do first?

Move to a plan that runs scripts before building the widget, because on Personal the G2 reviews will not render however the Code Block is set up. The iframe version of the embed does not get around it either, since iframes in Code Blocks are held back on that plan too.

Check which plan the site is on before anything else. It saves an afternoon of re-pasting code into a box that was never going to turn into reviews, and it tells you whether the upgrade belongs in this month's budget.

Can G2 reviews go in a narrow Squarespace column?

They can, but a Code Block is only as wide as its column, and G2 reviews are full sentences that need room. Use a full-width section for the main placement and keep narrow columns for something compact.

SEO + AI schema · paid plans

Review schema markup, on paid plans

Paid widgets add schema.org Review and AggregateRating JSON-LD to the page they sit on, so search engines and AI answer engines can read your G2 reviews as structured data. Google does not show review stars for reviews a business shows about itself, so the gain is readability, not stars. The free plan shows the reviews without the schema. See how the schema works

The same widget, built from whichever platform your reviews live on. Free plan on every one.

How to Add G2 Reviews to Squarespace

Connect your G2 profile in BlooTrue, pick a style, then paste one embed code into the Code Block on Squarespace and publish. Code Blocks exist on every Squarespace plan, but JavaScript and iframes only render on Core, Plus, Advanced, Business and Commerce. Not Personal.

  1. 1

Open the page in the Squarespace editor.

  2. 2

Add a block and choose Code.

  3. 3

Paste the BlooTrue embed code (leave type as HTML).

  4. 4

Save — the widget renders on the live page (preview may show a placeholder).

The editor shows Code Blocks as a gray placeholder — the widget renders on the published page.

Where the Code Goes on Squarespace

In Squarespace the embed code goes into a Code Block, added from the block menu on the page with the type left as HTML. The editor shows a Code Block as a gray placeholder, so you never see the reviews inside the editor; they render on the live page after you save.

The block fills the width of its column in the section grid and expands to the widget's height. A Code Block is per page, and Code Injection under Settings is the site-wide alternative, but it puts code in the header or footer rather than in the page body.

If the widget does not show on Squarespace

  • If the live page shows nothing, check your plan; JavaScript in Code Blocks does not render on the Personal plan.
  • If the editor shows a gray box, that is normal; Squarespace renders Code Blocks on the published page only.
  • If the code appears as text, confirm the Code Block type is set to HTML, not Markdown.

Where G2 reviews help most on Squarespace

A software company on Squarespace is usually an early-stage team with a marketing site: home, features, pricing, maybe a comparison page.

Put the G2 widget under the hero on the home page, and on the pricing page above the plan cards, where buyers stop to decide whether the product is worth the money. A comparison page against a competitor is the third spot, since G2 is where buyers go to check such comparisons, and showing your reviews there saves them the trip. On the features page a compact badge is enough; that page is about what the product does, and the proof can stay small.

About G2 reviews in this widget

Your G2 widget lists the reviews from your G2 product profile and puts the star rating and review count G2 reports for that profile in the header. Both figures are read from G2, not averaged from the reviews on the page. G2 verifies the people who leave those ratings, which is why software buyers check them before booking a demo. The mistake to avoid is treating a G2 badge as an embed. G2 badges are image files with no review text behind them, so a visitor learns nothing beyond the logo. The widget shows the reviews themselves.

G2 Widget on Squarespace — FAQ

Is the BlooTrue G2 review widget free for Squarespace?
Yes. BlooTrue is completely free to embed G2 reviews on Squarespace. No plugin, no recurring fee, unlimited views. The free plan shows your reviews with BlooTrue branding in the footer; paid plans remove the branding.
How do I install the widget on Squarespace?
Open the page in the Squarespace editor. Add a block and choose Code. Paste the BlooTrue embed code (leave type as HTML). Save — the widget renders on the live page (preview may show a placeholder). Code Blocks exist on every Squarespace plan, but JavaScript and iframes only render on Core, Plus, Advanced, Business and Commerce. Not Personal.
Anything specific to Squarespace worth knowing before I embed?
The editor shows Code Blocks as a gray placeholder — the widget renders on the published page.
Where should I place G2 reviews on Squarespace for the biggest lift?
An empty full-width section under the intro — Squarespace's spacing frames the reviews cleanly.
Do the reviews stay up to date automatically?
Paid plans auto-sync your G2 reviews daily, so the widget always shows your latest 5-star reviews without touching Squarespace again. The free plan shows the reviews imported at setup.
We have two products listed on G2, can each one get its own widget?
Each widget reads one G2 product profile, the page at g2.com/products/your-product/reviews, so two products means two widgets with two URLs. The free plan includes a single widget, so start with the product your site promotes most; the header will carry that product's own G2 rating and review count.
Which number sits at the top of the G2 widget?
The star rating and review count from your G2 product profile, as G2 publishes them. BlooTrue does not build a new average from the G2 reviews it displays. Since the free plan lists only your G2 reviews of four stars and up, the header can read lower than the reviews under it, because G2 counts the lower ratings too.
What do I give up by using the free plan for G2 reviews?
Two things. A small BlooTrue badge appears on the widget, and the widget keeps the G2 reviews present when you created it rather than fetching new ones. There is no card to enter and no view limit. Paid plans remove the badge and check your G2 profile every day for reviews added since.
