G2 reviews on a WordPress software site

WordPress runs plenty of software marketing sites, from self-hosted installs managed by the team to sites on WordPress.com. The G2 widget works on both, with one plan catch on WordPress.com. The other habit worth a second thought is the sidebar, which is tempting for reviews and a poor home for long ones.

Does the G2 widget run on WordPress.com as well as self-hosted WordPress?

Yes, but WordPress.com allows custom embed code only on the Business plan or higher. Self-hosted WordPress runs it on any setup, through a Custom HTML block or the Text tab of the Classic editor.

Below that plan on WordPress.com the block stays blank, which looks like a broken widget and is not. Check the plan before reworking the code, and on a self-hosted site look at the caching plugin first.

Should G2 reviews go in a WordPress sidebar?

Only in a compact form. A sidebar widget area shrinks the reviews to its width, and G2 reviews written in full sentences turn into a long, narrow column, so keep the full widget in the page body.

Example

A team selling a backup plugin for WordPress

Their own site runs on self-hosted WordPress with a page cache plugin. They paste the G2 code into a Custom HTML block on a new testimonials page, click Update and purge the cache so visitors get the fresh page. The sidebar on their tutorials links to that page instead of squeezing the reviews in.

SEO + AI schema · paid plans

Review schema markup, on paid plans

Paid widgets add schema.org Review and AggregateRating JSON-LD to the page they sit on, so search engines and AI answer engines can read your G2 reviews as structured data. Google does not show review stars for reviews a business shows about itself, so the gain is readability, not stars. The free plan shows the reviews without the schema. See how the schema works

How to Add G2 Reviews to WordPress

Connect your G2 profile in BlooTrue, pick a style, then paste one embed code into the Custom HTML block on WordPress and publish. Self-hosted WordPress: every plan. WordPress.com: custom embed code requires the Business plan or higher.

  1. 1

Open the page or post in the WordPress block editor.

  2. 2

Add a Custom HTML block where the reviews should appear (Classic editor: use the Text tab).

  3. 3

Paste the BlooTrue embed code into the block.

  4. 4

Update/Publish the page — the widget renders on the live site.

In the Classic editor paste into the Text tab, not Visual — the visual editor rewrites script tags. The block editor previews the widget correctly.

Where the Code Goes on WordPress

In the WordPress block editor the embed sits in a Custom HTML block, which you can drop anywhere in a post, page, or block-based template.

The block has a Preview tab that renders the widget inside the editor, and it takes the width of its container and grows to fit the reviews. In the Classic editor you must paste on the Text tab, because the Visual tab rewrites script tags. Caching and security plugins are the WordPress-specific catch: a page cache can hold the old HTML until purged, and script-minifying optimizers can break the snippet.

If the widget does not show on WordPress

  • Widget missing on the live site but visible in the editor usually means a caching plugin. Purge the page cache and reload the page.
  • If the script tag vanished after saving in the Classic editor, you pasted on the Visual tab. Switch to Text and paste again.
  • A blank block on WordPress.com below the Business plan is the plan limit on custom embed code, not a widget problem.

Still blank? Our help article Widget not showing covers the checks that apply on every site.

G2 Review Widget for WordPress — Free, No Plugin

Embed G2 reviews on any WordPress page with a single copy-paste embed code. Real G2 stars — the B2B software buyer's strongest trust signal — on your own site. Installs via the Custom HTML block. Self-hosted WordPress: every plan. WordPress.com: custom embed code requires the Business plan or higher.

Where G2 reviews help most on WordPress

Software companies on WordPress often have big content sites: docs, a blog, landing pages built by the marketing team.

Put the G2 widget on the home page, the pricing page and every comparison or alternatives page, where buyers do the most checking. Posts that rank for problems your product solves can end with a compact widget beside a trial link. Documentation rarely needs it, because readers there are already users. If the pricing page is assembled from page-builder blocks, give the widget its own block rather than squeezing it into a pricing table cell, where it would be cut to the width of one plan.

About G2 reviews in this widget

Your G2 widget lists the reviews from your G2 product profile and puts the star rating and review count G2 reports for that profile in the header. Both figures are read from G2, not averaged from the reviews on the page. G2 verifies the people who leave those ratings, which is why software buyers check them before booking a demo. The mistake to avoid is treating a G2 badge as an embed. G2 badges are image files with no review text behind them, so a visitor learns nothing beyond the logo. The widget shows the reviews themselves.

G2 Widget on WordPress — FAQ

Is the BlooTrue G2 review widget free for WordPress?
Yes. BlooTrue is completely free to embed G2 reviews on WordPress. No plugin, no recurring fee, unlimited views. The free plan shows your reviews with BlooTrue branding in the footer; paid plans remove the branding.
How do I install the widget on WordPress?
Open the page or post in the WordPress block editor. Add a Custom HTML block where the reviews should appear (Classic editor: use the Text tab). Paste the BlooTrue embed code into the block. Update/Publish the page — the widget renders on the live site. Self-hosted WordPress: every plan. WordPress.com: custom embed code requires the Business plan or higher.
Anything specific to WordPress worth knowing before I embed?
In the Classic editor paste into the Text tab, not Visual — the visual editor rewrites script tags. The block editor previews the widget correctly.
Where should I place G2 reviews on WordPress for the biggest lift?
Homepage below the hero and on a dedicated testimonials page — WordPress themes almost always have a widget-ready section for both.
Do the reviews stay up to date automatically?
Paid plans auto-sync your G2 reviews daily, so the widget always shows your latest 5-star reviews without touching WordPress again. The free plan shows the reviews imported at setup.
We have two products listed on G2, can each one get its own widget?
Each widget reads one G2 product profile, the page at g2.com/products/your-product/reviews, so two products means two widgets with two URLs. The free plan includes a single widget, so start with the product your site promotes most; the header will carry that product's own G2 rating and review count.
Which number sits at the top of the G2 widget?
The star rating and review count from your G2 product profile, as G2 publishes them. BlooTrue does not build a new average from the G2 reviews it displays. Since the free plan lists only your G2 reviews of four stars and up, the header can read lower than the reviews under it, because G2 counts the lower ratings too.
What do I give up by using the free plan for G2 reviews?
Two things. A small BlooTrue badge appears on the widget, and the widget keeps the G2 reviews present when you created it rather than fetching new ones. There is no card to enter and no view limit. Paid plans remove the badge and check your G2 profile every day for reviews added since.
