Facebook recommendations on a Squarespace site

Squarespace sites lean on photography and white space, and Facebook recommendations are written comments from customers rather than scores. The two work well together, but only if the comments get a section of their own and your Squarespace plan actually runs scripts. Both points matter more than the code itself.

How should Facebook recommendations sit in a Squarespace layout?

In a section of their own, not beside an image. Recommendations read like short quotes from customers and need the full column to breathe, so give the Code Block an empty section rather than squeezing it next to a gallery.

Why does my Facebook widget show nothing on a Squarespace Personal site?

Because Squarespace does not run JavaScript inside Code Blocks on the Personal plan, and the widget is a script. The block saves normally, but the live page stays empty until the site is on Core or a higher plan.

Rule out the Facebook side too. If recommendations are switched off on your Page, there is nothing for the builder to import, so turn them on in the Page settings before you build the widget. And if the code appears as text, the block's type is set to Markdown instead of HTML.

Where the Code Goes on Squarespace

In Squarespace the embed code goes into a Code Block, added from the block menu on the page with the type left as HTML. The editor shows a Code Block as a gray placeholder, so you never see the reviews inside the editor; they render on the live page after you save.

The block fills the width of its column in the section grid and expands to the widget's height. A Code Block is per page, and Code Injection under Settings is the site-wide alternative, but it puts code in the header or footer rather than in the page body.

If the widget does not show on Squarespace

  • If the live page shows nothing, check your plan; JavaScript in Code Blocks does not render on the Personal plan.
  • If the editor shows a gray box, that is normal; Squarespace renders Code Blocks on the published page only.
  • If the code appears as text, confirm the Code Block type is set to HTML, not Markdown.
