BBB Review Widget for Notion — Free, CodePen / JSBin Workaround

BlooTrue's BBB Review Widget for Notion is a free embed for any public Notion page — works around Notion's URL-only /embed block via a free CodePen / JSBin intermediary. BBB has no embed widget at all (its Fusion API is gated for partner apps), and Notion has no native BBB integration and no app marketplace, so CodePen + BlooTrue is literally the only practical way to put live BBB reviews on a Notion page. Notion's native /embed block only accepts URLs, not raw HTML, because Notion is a docs/wiki tool rather than a website CMS in the conventional sense. The well-documented community workaround is to paste the BlooTrue embed snippet into a free CodePen pen (or JSBin), save it, copy the pen's full-page URL (the /full/ view, not the editor), then in Notion type /embed and paste that URL. Notion renders the CodePen full page inside an iframe, and the BlooTrue widget renders inside the iframe with your real BBB reviews. The free Notion plan supports this — no paid Notion subscription and no BBB API key are required. Notion's “Share to web” feature lets you publish the page as a public read-only URL, and third-party publishers like Super, Potion, and Fruition turn a Notion page into a standalone website with custom domain support — the embedded BBB widget renders identically on all of them. SEO note: Notion's own pages don't expose JSON-LD at the page level, so the embed itself emits schema.org Review + AggregateRating JSON-LD inside its iframe — Bing and DuckDuckGo pick this up, and Super / Potion sites surface it at the page level via their own meta-tag layer.

How to embed BBB reviews on Notion in 60 seconds

  1. Paste your BBB business profile URL (bbb.org/./profile/your-business-slug) into the configurator above.
  2. Pick a widget style and customize colors, theme, and layout.
  3. Click Copy Code to get the one-line HTML embed.
  4. Open codepen.io, create a new pen, paste the embed code into the HTML tab, save, then copy the pen's full-page URL(looks like codepen.io/your-name/full/abc123) — not the editor URL.
  5. In your Notion page, type /embed, paste the CodePen URL, click Embed link, and drag the corners to resize.
  6. Save — your BBB reviews are live on Notion.

Why is BlooTrue + CodePen the only way?

BBB doesn't publish a paste-ready embed widget the way Google publishes Place Cards — BBB's Fusion API is positioned as a partner-channel product (used by sites like Apple Maps and Trivago), not a merchant self-service product. Notion, on the other side, doesn't accept raw HTML in any block — only URLs via /embed. The intersection of those two constraints leaves CodePen + BlooTrue as the only practical path to put live BBB reviews on a Notion page.

Get golden stars in Google search results

On paid plans, every BlooTrue widget injects schema.org Review + AggregateRating JSON-LD straight into your page — so Google and AI answer engines can read your ratings and reviews as structured data, and your pages become eligible for star-rating rich snippets. (Google treats a business's own reviews on its own site as "self-serving" and doesn't guarantee stars for them — product/service reviews are the most reliably eligible; either way your reviews become machine-readable for search and AI.)

4.9
(127)
This is what your customers see when they Google you — powered by BlooTrue's JSON-LD.
  • Zero config — it just works

    The moment you embed a BlooTrue widget, JSON-LD markup is injected automatically. No extra tags, no developer time.

  • Google Rich Results valid

    Every field follows Google's current structured-data guidelines — LocalBusiness, AggregateRating, and Review — so it passes the Rich Results Test out of the box.

  • Standalone schema endpoint Paid plans

    For star ratings to appear under your parent page's blue link in Google, search engines need the schema on the parent page itself — iframe-embedded schema is not propagated to the host page. Paid plans expose a JSON-LD endpoint per widget that you drop into your<head>for SERP rich snippets on product, landing, or legacy pages. Schema markup is a paid feature: free-plan widgets display your reviews but don't emit JSON-LD, so free pages aren't eligible for rich snippets.

What gets injected automaticallylive

  "@type": "LocalBusiness",
  "name": "Your Business",
  "aggregateRating": {
    "ratingValue": "4.9",
    "reviewCount": "127"
  }
}
</script>

Star-snippet visibility is ultimately decided by Google — valid schema is a prerequisite, not a guarantee. BlooTrue ships the markup; Google decides which queries get stars. For SERP rich snippets to appear under your parent page's link, the schema must be served on the parent page itself — that's what the standalone JSON-LD endpoint (paid plans) is for. Schema markup is a paid feature, so free-plan widgets display your reviews but don't emit JSON-LD. Independent studies find pages with valid review schema see materially higher click-through rates than plain listings.

Why Use BlooTrue for BBB on Notion?

The only way to put live BBB reviews on a Notion page — BBB has no embed and Notion has no plugin layer.

Fills Two Gaps At Once

BBB has no embed widget. Notion has no native HTML block. BlooTrue + CodePen is the only practical path — well-known on Reddit, Stack Overflow, and the Notion community forum.

No BBB API Key Required

Works with any public BBB business profile. No BBB Fusion application, no API quotas, no business-level claim required.

Super, Potion, Fruition Compatible

Third-party publishers that turn Notion pages into standalone websites preserve `/embed` blocks. The CodePen iframe carrying BlooTrue renders identically on Super, Potion, and Fruition.

Auto-Sync With BBB

New BBB reviews appear on your Notion page automatically every 24 hours. The CodePen pen pulls from BlooTrue's CDN, which pulls from your public BBB business profile.

What makes a BBB widget different from a Google review widget?

BBB customer reviews are a native 1–5 star system. Knowing how they differ from BBB's A+-to-F letter rating, how profile setup works, and how reviews are moderated avoids surprises after you embed.

BBB customer reviews vs the A+-to-F “BBB rating”

BBB has two separate signals, and this widget shows only one of them. The first is the 1–5 star customer reviews — written by your customers about their experience — with an overall customer-review average; that's what BlooTrue displays. The second is the A+-to-F letter “BBB rating”, which is BBB's own grade for how a business interacts with BBB (complaint history, transparency, time in business, accreditation status) — the widget does not show this letter rating or the accreditation seal. BlooTrue renders each customer review exactly as stars: a 5-star review shows 5 stars, a 3-star review shows 3, and the header shows your real BBB customer-review average and count. The header rating always comes from BBB's own published customer-review aggregate, never from averaging the individual cards on screen.

Where the reviews come from and how often they refresh

BlooTrue fetches the publicly-visible customer reviews from your BBB business profile on a server-side schedule — roughly once every 24 hours on paid plans — and caches the result. Your site never calls BBB directly, so visitor traffic to your page doesn't depend on BBB being reachable, and the widget loads instantly from cache. Only reviews that are public on your profile are included. Each review keeps its reviewer name, star rating, and text, and links back to your BBB business profile.

Accreditation, profile setup, and what shows up in the widget

You do not need to be a BBB Accredited Business to use this widget — it works with any public BBB business profile, accredited or not. Reviews only appear if your profile is public and has customer reviews. If your profile is brand new or has zero reviews, there's nothing for the widget to import yet — it will populate as soon as your first public customer review lands. Once your profile has reviews, the widget shows whatever is public: no more, no less. If a review disappears from your widget after a sync, it almost always means the customer deleted it or BBB removed it — the widget simply follows your profile's public state.

Moderation, review guidelines, and attribution

BBB moderates customer reviews under its review guidelines and removes spam, fraudulent submissions, and content that violates its policies. Because BlooTrue reads only your profile's public reviews, the widget automatically reflects those removals on the next sync — you never display content BBB has already taken down. Every card keeps the BBB mark and the reviewer's name, and clicking a review links back to your BBB business profile, so attribution stays intact. BlooTrue never fabricates a rating: an empty star-only review (a star rating with no written text) is still shown as a real review, and the header number is always BBB's own customer-review aggregate.

BBB tips for Notion

  • Notion's embed block accepts the BBB widget URL — paste the snippet URL (not the script tag) into the embed prompt.
  • For public Notion sites built with Super, Potion, or Fruition, the BBB widget renders identically to the standard embed.
  • BBB's widget respects Notion's page width and adapts to Notion's narrow vs. wide layouts automatically.

How Do I Install BlooTrue BBB on Notion?

4 steps. Uses CodePen as a free intermediary because Notion's /embed block only accepts URLs, not HTML.

1

Build Your Widget & Copy the Embed Code

Scroll up and use the configurator on this page. Paste your BBB business profile URL (e.g. bbb.org/./profile/your-business-slug) and your real reviews load automatically into the live preview. Click Copy Code.

Notion's /embed block only accepts URLs, not raw HTML — so we'll use a free CodePen pen to host the snippet at a public URL.

2

Host the Snippet in a Free CodePen Pen

Open codepen.io (free signup, no credit card). Click Create → New Pen, paste the BlooTrue embed code into the HTML tab, then click Save.

Once saved, click Change View → Full Page and copy the full-page URL — it looks like codepen.io/your-name/full/abc123. Important: use the /full/ view URL, not the editor URL.

Alternative: JSBin, Glitch, Replit, or GitHub Pages all work the same way.

3

Paste the CodePen URL into Notion

In your Notion page, type /embed, paste your CodePen full-page URL into the popup, and click Embed link. Notion renders the CodePen full page inside its iframe — your BBB reviews appear.

4

Resize to Fit Your Notion Page

Drag the corners of the embed block in Notion to resize the widget. The widget is responsive inside the iframe. Reviews auto-sync from BBB every 24 hours via the CodePen pen — no further maintenance.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the BlooTrue BBB widget free for Notion?

Yes. BlooTrue is completely free for Notion. No Notion paid plan required, unlimited widget views, no sign-up required to preview. The free plan shows your BBB reviews with BlooTrue branding in the footer.

Why doesn't Notion accept raw HTML in the `/embed` block?

Notion's `/embed` block is a URL-only embed: you paste a link, and Notion renders the link's content inside an iframe. Notion does not give you a code block that runs raw HTML, JavaScript, or `<script>` tags. This is a security and consistency design choice — Notion is fundamentally a docs/wiki tool, not a website CMS. The community workaround is to host the HTML snippet in a free intermediary that exposes a public full-page URL, then paste that URL into Notion's `/embed` block.

How does the CodePen workaround for embedding BBB in Notion work?

CodePen lets anyone create a free pen, paste HTML/CSS/JS, and serve the result at a public full-page URL like codepen.io/your-name/full/abc123. You paste the BlooTrue BBB embed code into the HTML tab of a new pen, save the pen, copy the full-page URL (the `/full/` view, not the editor view), then in Notion type `/embed`, paste the URL, and click `Embed link`. Notion loads the CodePen full page inside an iframe — your BBB reviews render inside that iframe. JSBin (jsbin.com) works identically as an alternative.

Does BBB offer its own embed widget for Notion?

No. BBB does not provide an official embed widget for businesses to display their reviews anywhere — not on websites, not on Notion. BBB's Fusion API is gated and primarily intended for partner apps, not merchant self-embeds. CodePen + BlooTrue is the only practical way to put live BBB reviews on a Notion page.

Will the widget work on Super, Potion, or Fruition Notion sites?

Yes. Super, Potion, and Fruition publish a public Notion page as a standalone website. They preserve Notion's embed blocks, so the CodePen iframe carrying the BlooTrue BBB widget renders normally on the published Super / Potion / Fruition site. Custom domains and SEO settings on those publishers all coexist with the embedded widget.

Can I avoid CodePen and embed the HTML directly in Notion?

No, not at the moment. Notion has no native HTML / JavaScript code block. The only way to render arbitrary HTML inside a Notion page is to load it via the `/embed` block from a public URL, which means an intermediary host. CodePen and JSBin are the most popular choices because they're free, instant, and have no signup requirement on read. Self-hosting on Glitch, Replit, or GitHub Pages also works — same pattern, just a different host.

Will BBB reviews on my Notion page help SEO?

Honest answer: partially. Notion's own pages don't expose JSON-LD to search engines, so structured data on a vanilla `notion.so` URL is limited. The BlooTrue widget injects schema.org Review + AggregateRating JSON-LD inside its iframe, which is reliably picked up by Bing and DuckDuckGo. For full Google rich-snippet eligibility on a Notion-published site, use Super or Potion — they expose proper HTML and meta tags at the page level.
